Swahili Art & Culture Vocabulary

This list gathers the Swahili words you'll actually meet when talking about art, heritage, and celebrations: utamaduni (culture), sanaa (art), tamasha (festival or show), muziki (music), and more. Each entry comes with an example sentence, so you see the word at work rather than alone in a glossary.

Art and culture vocabulary in Swahili rewards a bit of pattern-spotting: prefixes signal whether a word refers to a person, a plural, or a quality, and several near-synonyms (mila, jadi, desturi) all circle the idea of tradition or custom with slightly different shades. Learn them side by side and the differences start to feel natural.
