Numbers and quantities come up everywhere in French, from telling the time and reading prices to describing weights, distances and chances. This themed list gathers common French words for amounts, measurements and counting, each paired with its English translation, its gender where relevant, and an example sentence so you can see it in use.
Because the topic mixes nouns, adjectives and a core verb, it pays to study it as its own set rather than blending it into general vocabulary. In Vocab Voyage you type the French word for an English prompt, and spaced repetition handles the review schedule; accents are forgiven, so you can concentrate on the word itself and its gender.

Gender: m. masculine · f. feminine · n. neuter · c. common
Numéro is an identifying number, such as a phone number or an address, whereas nombre is a quantity or a numeral in a more general sense. Chiffres refers to the individual digits that make up a number.
There is no single rule, but patterns help: nouns ending in -té such as quantité and in -aine such as douzaine are feminine, while mètres, kilomètres, litre and poids are masculine. Note that tonnes is feminine, so it is safest to learn the gender together with each word.
Moitié is the everyday noun for half of something, as in half of a cake or half of the group. Demie turns up especially in time expressions, such as saying it is half past the hour, so it is worth practising the two in separate sentences.
