Italian Travel & Transport Vocabulary

Planning a trip in Italian means juggling a lot of small, high-frequency words: modes of transport, the places you pass through, and the verbs that get you from one to the other. This list gathers core Italian travel and transport vocabulary you'll meet on signs, tickets and in conversation, each with its gender and an example sentence, so you see the word in context rather than in isolation.

Rather than memorising the list top to bottom, use it to notice patterns: which nouns are feminine, which are masculine, and how verbs like partire, viaggiare and giungere behave in a full sentence. Vocab Voyage turns this list into spaced-repetition flashcards, so you type the Italian word for an English prompt and build recall gradually instead of cramming.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between viaggio and viaggiare?

Viaggio is the noun 'journey', while viaggiare is the verb 'to travel'. They share a root, so once you know one, the other is easy to place in a sentence.

Why is auto feminine if it ends in -o?

Auto is a shortened form of a longer feminine noun and keeps that gender. It's one of the few common -o nouns in this theme that breaks the usual masculine pattern.
