Tips

Sort the nouns by gender as you learn them: in this list the words ending in -a are feminine (roba, sabata, jaqueta, bossa, cartera), while vestit, barret, pantaló, guant and uniforme are masculine. Noticing the pattern early makes the article easier to guess for new words.
Watch the singular forms: the list gives pantaló and sabata in the singular even though the English translations 'trousers' and 'shoes' are plural, so type the singular Catalan form when you answer.
Practise the shopping scene as a mini-script: comprar something at the botiga or mercat, check the venda price, pay from your butxaca or cartera, and carry your compra home in a bossa. Rehearsing the sequence out loud links the verb and the nouns together.
Learn the words in functional clusters rather than one long alphabetical run: ampolla and tassa with bar, bossa and cartera with roba and moda, botiga and mercat with comprar and compra.

What's the difference between compra and comprar?

Comprar is the verb 'to buy', while compra is the feminine noun 'purchase' -- the thing you buy or the act of buying, as in the compra you bring home from the mercat.

Why do pantaló and sabata look singular when their English translations are plural?

Catalan often names the garment with a singular noun where English uses a plural form such as 'trousers' or 'shoes'. Stick to the singular spelling shown in the list when you type your flashcard answers.
