City and place vocabulary is some of the most useful Dutch you can learn, because it shows up everywhere: giving directions, reading signs, describing your neighborhood, or just talking about where you live. Tips

Learn every noun together with its article rather than on its own: say de brug and het centrum out loud so the gender becomes automatic.
Break compounds into their parts: longer words like parkeerplaats and politiebureau are much easier to recall once you notice the shorter words inside them.
Watch out for poort, which means gate, not "port" — an easy mix-up for English speakers skimming city vocabulary.
Practise plek and locatie separately: both can be translated as "place", but plek is the everyday word for a spot, while locatie is more formal and specific, closer to "location".
Drill the words in small thematic groups, for example geography terms like land, grens, kust and gebied versus urban words like straat, brug, kanaal and parkeerplaats.
When you review, type short phrases such as in de buurt or naar het centrum instead of the bare noun, so the vocabulary comes with a ready-made context.
